KAMPALA — St. Balikuddembe market was yesterday plunged into chaos, when a casual labourer allegedly stabbed his colleague to death. Patrick Bagonza died instantly when Mustapha Malu, a resident of Makindye, reportedly stuck a knife into his stomach. Old Kampala Police boss Abbey Kisubi said Malu had been arrested. He said the incident followed a sharp dispute which culminated into a fight.

LRA kill two
KABERAMAIDO — LRA rebels on Saturday killed two people and abducted 42 from Anyara sub-county and in Amugu parish, Lira district. Otuboi LC3 chairman, Richard Oriekot said the rebels abducted seven children from Omid village. Oriekot told Kalaki county MP, Martin Orech that the abduction created panic in Otuboi and Anyara sub-counties, where residents were still recovering from last Tuesday’s abduction of Lwala Girls’ students.

BUNIA, DRC — French army chief of staff, Gen. Henri Bentegeat, arrives in Uganda today en-route the northeast DR Congo town of Bunia, where France has deployed 800 troops, a military spokesman said Tuesday. Colonel Gerard Dubois, said, “He will arrive in Bunia on Thursday morning and tour the force’s positions and return to Entebbe in the evening.” Entebbe is being used as a support base for the mission in Bunia.

Basajja clear
KAMPALA — City businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba has been cleared of assault charges after he agreed with the plaintiff to settle the matter out of court. The Director of Public Prosecution discontinued the proceedings after Apollo Ayebale requested that the matter be dropped. He said Basajjabalaba, whom he accused of hitting him with a log, paid him sh2m.
