Uganda’s tallest man John Paul Ofwono (right) has died.

Ofwono, also believed to be the world’s third tallest, was suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and had traces of graniopharyngioma in the brain, a condition that causes secretion of excessive growth hormones.

Doctors at Mulago Hospital said Ofwono’s health had not stabilised since he was admitted to the hospital last Friday.

Ofwono rose to prominence in 1999 when The New Vision broke the story that he was the tallest man in Uganda in February 1999.

While at Mulago Hospital where he had gone for treatment, Ofwono acquired a wife, Betty.

He was first contracted by 3R International distillers of Tyson waragi where he signed a contract of sh150,000 per month for three years as brand promoter and was later taken on by Premier distillers.

According to Dr. Stockley, Ofwono measured an average of 228.5 centimetres (7ft and 6 inches) standing and 230.5cm when lying down.
