SIR— I wish to respond to Mr John Egesa’s letter in The New Vision of June 30 as follows: <br>-Senior citizens who retired prior to 1988 basing on first-in-first-out criteria, starting with those born between 1900-1930.

SIR— I wish to respond to Mr John Egesa’s letter in The New Vision of June 30 as follows:
-Senior citizens who retired prior to 1988 basing on first-in-first-out criteria, starting with those born between 1900-1930.
-In this regard, sh20b was approved in the 2001/2002 budget and 3,459 senior citizens were paid sh14b.
-Last financial year, sh6b was given and 785 senior citizens from the same age bracket, including 1931 and 1932, were paid revalidated arrears.
-This financial year no funds have yet been given for this item. So no arrears will be paid.
-he ministry has briefed the executive of the Uganda Pensioner’s Co-operative Society on all pension matters every month.
-Upcountry cheques take longer to clear through the banks as they are deposited to their respective pay-points by courier services.
-The list of beneficiaries may be viewed from the principal accountant, Room 100, Ministry of Public Service.
-Pensioners are advised to contact Mr Mujabi, the in-charge Complaints Desk, Room 11, and on Tel. Nos. 251006, 250570 and 250534/6.
