NATIONAL champion Charlie Lubega, seeking to become the first driver to win five consecutive rallies in one season, has entered the UMC Rally due this weekend.
The TOTAL Rally Team driver, also chasing a fourth straight National Rally Championship (NRC) title, needs a win to extend his 20 points slim lead over Caltex’s Moses Lumala (300 points) who has maintained the pressure on the champion.
A win for Lumala and second position for Lubega, who forfeits 20 percent of points for driving a standard car, will see the Caltex man take a 20 points lead.
With only two events remaining on the calendar, the contest between Lumala (Toyota Celica ST185) and Lubega (Mitsubishi Evo4) is likely to be tense this weekend.
The fifth round of the NRC series will start with a super special stage at Kaazi on Saturday before the second leg in Mukono the next day.
Registration for the rally that has so far attracted 15 drivers ends tomorrow at 2.00pm ahead of the draw at Jokers Sports Bar.
The rally, organised by Uganda Motor Club, is sponsored by Alpha Dairy, Gelp, MTN and CBS FM.
