JINJA mayor David Wakudumira has warned residents of Walukuba Housing Estate against people who may con them in the co-operative societies they are forming to buy the estate houses.

He said some people were moving from house to house claiming to be assisting the residents to form the societies, but some of them could be thieves who may run away with their money.

“You must be careful when forming those co-operative societies because you may deal with conmen,” he said, while addressing a congregation at All Saints Church Walukuba recently.

Following a decision by Jinja Municipal Council to sell the 1,500 housing units in the estate with priority given to the sitting tenants, the residents are mobilising co-operatives to save money and buy the houses.

Wakudumira advised the tenants to pass on proposals on the planned sale to the committee handling the issue.

He supported a suggestion to extend the installment buying period from five to seven years.
