The wife of the President, Mrs. Janet Museveni, over the weekend hosted 50 members of Solar Power for Africa to a luncheon at the Victoria Inn, Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
By Vision Reporter The wife of the President, Mrs. Janet Museveni, over the weekend hosted 50 members of Solar Power for Africa to a luncheon at the Victoria Inn, Sheraton Hotel in Kampala. Solar Power for Africa is a Christian non-government organisation headed by retired Bishop Aldan Hathaway from Pittisburg in the US. It comprises of US and Ugandan clergy, doctors, engineers and students. It provides solar lighting for individuals, schools, mission homes and health centres. The group that began its activities in 1997 has installed 1,400 free solar facilities around Uganda. It also operates in Rwanda, Tanzania, Congo, Southern Sudan, Gabon and Ethiopia. This year, the group is working under the theme “Youth Mission 2003â€. It has installed solar facilities in Wakiso, Rakai and Hoima and a Safe drinking water project at Good Samaritan Health Centre in Rukunyu, Kamwengye district. Mrs. Museveni commended Solar Energy for Africa for not only providing light to the rural poor but also diversifying their services to health and safe drinking water projects. Ends
