A hearty Nigerian farewell

“Africans can only develop if we work together through trade and stop taking our resources to invest in other continents,” Olive Kigongo, Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) president said yesterday, reports Doreen Kansiime.

She was bidding farewell to the outgoing Nigerian ambassador, Sam Edem.

Kigongo said she will encourage Ugandans to invest in Africa’s most populous nation, if the Nigerian chamber of commerce opens links with UNCCI.

She thanked him for the support he has given UNNCI throughout his stay in Uganda.

“Uganda and Nigeria have a lot in common, especially in terms of resources. This should be the reason we should work hand in hand as brothers,” Edem said at the UNNCI secretariat at Jumbo Plaza.

He said Uganda and Nigeria both have fertile soils and good climates to encourage the development of agriculture which could encourage trade between two countries.

He said Ugandan products like coffee and tea would easily find a market in Nigeria, because he had tasted them and appreciated them.

Edem said plans for direct flights between Entebbe and Nigeria would enable easy communication and trade between the two countries. Both agreed that Africans should trade more to develop linkages.
