RUBAGA Division employees were on Tuesday locked out of their offices after the city authorities failed to pay rent for seven months
RUBAGA Division employees were on Tuesday locked out of their offices after the city authorities failed to pay rent for seven months, reports Catherine Ntabaddde.
It was not until the division paid the over sh12m rent that the African Muslim League re-opened the offices.
The division rents the offices on Namirembe Road at sh1.85m per month.
The division chairman, Justin Ssendikaddiwa, on Wednesday said the African Muslim League locked their offices at 5:00am for failure to pay the rent.
“By the time we came, our offices were closed. The landlord put padlocks on them and we could not access them. We paid the rent up to the end of July and our offices were opened thereafter,†he said.
Ssendikaddiwa said the issue of rent would be solved when construction of their sh1b head office was completed next month.
The World Bank in 2002 extended a grant to Kampala City Council to construct Rubaga Division offices.
Complant Construction Company, a Chinese firm, is constructing the four-storey building at Kabaka Anjagala Road in Mengo.
“The contractor is expected to handle over the project by August 15. All our offices will be found in the new block,†Ssendikaddiwa said.
