TWICE beaten by a female crew of Nathalie Cox and co-driver Sylvia Vindevogel, Wycliff Bukenya has sworn to break the jinx this weekend in the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally.

Castrol Rally Team’s Bukenya, who left for Kigali on Tuesday, strongly believes that with the new engine in his Toyota Celica ST185 he will upstage Nathalie — the reigning Rwanda champion.

“I will shock Nathalie. If Moses Lumala and Riyaz (Kurji) make mistakes I will also close in on them,” an upbeat Bukenya said, after a test run before departure.

Lumala, Riyaz, Bob Roberts and Issa Numba also left for Kigali on the same day in time for route reccing on Wednesday.

Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC) hired Long Freighters to transport cars to and from Kigali.

The Ugandans will come up against drivers from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Belgium, Rwanda and Burundi in the fourth round of the Africa Rally Championship series.

After the Rwanda round, most of the cars will be transported to Kampala for the TOTAL Pearl of Africa Uganda rally due September 5-7.
