LRA burn Gulu woman
GULU — The Lord’s Resistance Army rebels recently burnt a woman to death inside a grass-thatched hut in Acowa. The rebels reportedly pushed seven people into the hut before setting it ablaze but other people pushed the wall down and escaped into a nearby bush. The LC1 defence secretary, Isaac Okodi, told the parliamentary committee on defence that by the time the other people pushed the wall, Amulo had died.

WFP to open feed centres
GULU — The World Food Programme (WFP) is to open feeding centres in displaced people’s camps in Northern Uganda to curb the increasing cases of malnutrition. The district WFP Programme officer, Robert Adupa, recently said the centres would offer therapeutic and supplementary feeding to the malnourished children. The beneficiary camps include Opit, Awach, Anaka, Amuru, Pabbo and Lacor.

Fire guts school
KABALE — St Mary’s College Rushoroza recently closed down following a fire outbreak in one of the dormitories. The headmaster, Amos Ohumuriza, said the fire destroyed property worth sh100m but no student was hurt. The fire was reportedly caused by an electric short circuit. Ohumuriza said S. 4 and S. 6 students were more affected.Ends
