RAU elects
KAMPALA — Members of the Reading Association of Uganda (RAU) have elected Sam Andema, a lecturer at Kyambongo University, as its chairman. He succeeds Yunia Obua-Otoa. Other executive members include the Rev. Fr. Peter Bakka, as deputy, Hilda Twongyirwe as secretary general, Geraldine Bukenya as publicity secretary and Eva Barongo as treasurer.

IGG probes
KAMPALA — The Inspector General of Government (IGG) is to investigate claims that Kawempe division principal town clerk John Gateni dismissed over 16 employees unfairly. This follows a complaint by John Mujuni, a former Kawempe division employee, to the IGG’s office. Mujuni said Gateni dismissed them on politics grounds.

RDC warns
SEMBABULE — Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hassan Galiwango has warned district workers with forged and low academic credentials to resign their positions before he takes action. Galiwango was inaugurating the new district tender board at the district council hall on Saturday.

Crash kills 5
MASAKA — Five people perished in a road accident when a trailer collided with an Isuzu truck at Mpambire village, 45 km on the Kampala-Masaka highway last week. Mpigi district traffic officer Geoffrey Wanami identified one of the dead as Fabian Keeya, the driver.
