Ethiopian Junior Takes ITF Title

ETHIOPIAN Mesfin Geladious prevailed over compatriot Chico Zerlhuni to win the boys’ 13 and under ITF/CAT East African circuit at Lugogo tennis club yesterday.

ETHIOPIAN Mesfin Geladious prevailed over compatriot Chico Zerlhuni to win the boys’ 13 and under ITF/CAT East African circuit at Lugogo tennis club yesterday.
Playing under cool temperatures in the morning, Mesfin held off a spirited fight by Zerlhuni in the first set to win 7-5 6-3.
It was also an all-Burundian affair in the girls’ final as Butoyi Aziza defeated Nshimirimana Sakina 6-3, 6-3 in less than one hour.
Mesfin eliminated Sudanese Ahmed Khalid to advance to the final while Zerlhuni ejected Ugandan star Duncan Mugabe.
The second tournament gets underway today at Lugogo.
International Tennis Federation and Uganda Tennis Association are sponsors of the tournaments that have attracted over 40 children from Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Seychelles, Rwanda and Burundi

Girls’ semifinals results:
Butoyi bt Yarga 6-1 6-2; Nsimirimana bt Aisha 6-0 6-3
