TWO top officials in Kiboga district have been arrested as education and public service ministries toughen on payroll fraud.
John Sebigaju, the personnel officer, and Robert Magemeso, the in charge salaries, were picked from their offices on Friday evening by the Serious Fraud Squad. Charles Maniraguha, from Police headquarters in Kampala led the arrests.
The duo are detained at the Kampala Central Police Station and are expected to appear in court today, Police sources said.
Elizabeth Kutesa, the director Criminal Investigations Department said the arrest was part of a wider operation to end payroll fraud.
Francis Lubanga, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, said he was aware of the arrests but declined to give details.
Lubanga recently told parliament that over 200 ghost teachers had been found on education payroll.
