GOVERNMENT has said the burial arrangements for former President Idi Amin Dada were purely a family matter, and that it had no objection to the body being repatriated.
Amin died on Saturday in Saudi Arabia and was immediately buried there, in accordance with Islamic norms.
Foreign Affairs permanent secretary Julius Onen said in a press release on Saturday that the position of the Government on the burial had already been communicated to the Saudi Arabian Government.
“The Government of the Republic of Uganda upon learning of the death of Amin wishes to state that Amin’s family requested to have the body repatriated for burial. Government has absolutely no objection as this is purely a family matter,” Onen said.
