OUTGOING Church of Uganda Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo (right) on Saturday said Idi Amin championed religious outreach in the Army barracks.
Nkoyooyo, who jetted in the country on Saturday from America, said he remembered Idi Amin as a person who liked his religion and respected other religious leaders.
“All I can recall about Amin was that he always liked his religion and made it a point that all army barracks had religious chaplains,” Nkoyooyo said.
Nkoyooyo said the Army needs the services of the church if they were to wipe out their enemies. He said although Amin had his misdeeds, he should be credited for his good actions.
Idi Amin, a former President of Uganda who reigned between 1972-1979 died and was buried on Saturday in Saudi Arabia where he had lived for over 20 years in exile.
Nkoyooyo sent condolences to Amin’s family. Ends
