THE sh80m joint venture between singer Halima Namakula’s son Hemdee Kiwanuka and Raj Limbachia of the Al’s Bar in Kansanga was launched last Saturday evening. Then on Monday this week, 96.3 Beat FM officially went on air with full programming and Joel Isabirye, formerly of Sanyu FM as their programme manager.
Expect nothing but more music and less talk. The music played is generally contemporary urban and the English language dominates.
The owners of the station also introduced their radio presenters and other staff to the media at their Upper Mawanda Road base, which also houses No End Entertainment.
After the presentation, it was the usual cocktail staff at the rooftop of the station’s building. More booze and snacks to the guests who included tycoon Wavah’s son Gilbert Wavamunno.
The vehicle-crazy Gilbert was in the company of an equally brown girl who could not let her hands off him. Umm, and he enjoyed every ‘beat’ of it.
Then it was time for dancing as Joel showed that he is the master at selecting tunes. He let the turntables do the talking. He played some really unique Caribbean stuff but mainly contemporary R&B. And, for those who might be interested in listening to Beat FM, he promised to do the same every Sunday.
