A Male leopard terrorised Kalungu village, Wakyato sub-county on Tuesday, injuring a herdsman.
Two youths, however, won the hearts of hundreds of the residents of Luweero’s Nakaseke county after they confronted the beast with spears and killed it.
The animal had killed a cow and seriously wounding the herdsman, Ssentongo. He was admitted to Kiwoko Hospital for treatment.
The youths, Edward Rutafabusha and William Rweshereka, carried the carcass of the leopard to Kiwoko Police post, where curious residents thronged to have a glimpse.
Narrating the episode, the two men said the saga started when the beast, whose skin was dotted with black spots, attacked Mzee Leuben Sebbowa’s kraal, killing a calf.
Rutafabusha said Sentongo speared the leopard. The wounded beast pounced on him, inflicting several injuries on his head and body.
It was at this moment that the two ‘heroes’ intervened with their spears.Kiwoko police on Tuesday sent for the district vermin control officials to collect the carcass.
