Bantariza killer to die KAMPALA — Shadrack Rwakasisi Magara, 27, a Makerere University student will hang for the murder of Warren Bantariza, the Court of Appeal has upheld. Bantariza, 20, was the son of former Buhweju MP, Francis Bantariza. He was killed in 1994 at the Botanical Gardens, Entebbe where Magara ran over him with a car after poisoning him. Justices Galdino Okello, Stephen George Engwau and Amos Twinomujuni, said they found no merit in the appeal.
MPs reject exemptions KAMPALA — MPs have asked the Ministry of Finance to stop blanket exemption of taxation for non-government and religious organizations. MPs on the finance committee said yesterday the Government’s tax base was still very narrow and needed to be strengthened. 500 ex-ADF return home KASESE — At least 500 captives of the defunct Allied Democratic Front (ADF) have returned, a Uganda Amnesty Commission (UAC) officer said in Kasese recently. Monsignor Thomas Kisembo said they had reported to his office since June. He said they could have been part of about 800 captives from various parts of the Rwenzori region.
