Today, many people spend a lot of time in the gym, trying their best to keep fit and lose weight. However, this is not the only way to keep fit.

  • Dancing
    Dancing is extremely pleasurable. It is another form of relaxation and gives one a new lease on life. As you shake off, you will eventually sweat. In the quarter of an hour you spend on the dancing floor, reacting to Congolese rhythms for example, you loose a number of calories. You do not need to go to a nightclub to achieve this. Whenever your home stereo plays a number you love, get off the seat and dance. At parties, dance and you will be surprised at how fit you will eventually become.   • Use the stairs instead of the lift
    If your office is on the 7th floor of any building in town, you are the luckiest Ugandan. Stop using the lift. Take to the staircase while going up and do the same while going back home. Twice a day will be a good exercise. Plus, you would have done a great job on your thigh muscles. To do this though, you might have to budget for more time so that you do not arrive late to office. The ladies must be wondering how they will do it with stilettos on their feet. Buy a pair of flat-soled shoes for this purpose.

  • Visiting the Beach
    So she has been on your case to visit Entebbe and spend some quality time on the beach together. Take it up. Accept. While at the beach, spend sometime swimming together. She will declare you the most romantic dude under the sky. And as you enjoy, you will be exercising and fighting that potbelly that makes people laugh at you.

  • Play Soccer
    Are you an English Premier League fanatic who enjoys the fantastic pace of Thierry Henry? This is your golden chance to emulate him.
    If you have an expansive compound, this is good news. You do not need the services of Wankuluku stadium.
    All you need is a ball to do it once a week. By the way, you can play soccer with your son and he will never say you never had time for him. There is a corporate league where you can enroll as well. You will not be playing for your employer alone but for your fitness as well.

  • Cleaning up
    I know you have a house helper at home but you can send them on leave at times. What better way to exercise by cleaning instead of sitting back. This means that you will have to remove some of the items from one place to another. Lift them and that’s where the beauty of this whole thing is. Before you know it, it will be an exercise.

  • Cycling on visitations
    It is a Sunday evening and you want to visit the neighbour at the periphery of a residential area. Leave the car at home, get a bicycle and ride there. You will save a lot on the fuel yet lose a lot of calories in the process of cycling.
    Riding is always good exercise but it is difficult when you do not have a common destination in mind. So, ride to your neighbour’s house, have a chat and ride back. Never mind that you are a lady, learn how to ride and enjoy it.

  • Walking
    You do not have to join the walking class –– that group that walks everyday to their places of work. But you can park that treasured automobile some few metres from your actual destination. Walk there and conclude the deal. Also, instead of jumping on a boda boda every now and then, walk around town as you go about your business.

  • Slash the compound
    When the compound needs a trim, do it yourself. Mow it. Pushing the mower is an exercise. Exercise can be tedious, but when that bushy compound is staring at you, you will get the guts to mow some more.
