The European Union (EU) has donated sh5.3b to Karamoja for development and poverty eradication, state minister for Karamoja affairs Peter Lokeris has said.

Lokeris made the remarks at a welcome ceremony for the new Karamoja Programme Implementation Unit (KPIU) manager, Stefan Kluker, a German expert, and his deputy D’polla Oyollo, on Thursday at Hotel Lesslona in Moroto town.

Lokeris said the money would be given to Kotido, Moroto and Nakapiripirit districts through KPIU for building schools, providing safe water and initiating poverty eradication projects.

He warned districts against corruption and diversion of funds, which he said had led to the temporally closure of KPIU’s first phase in January this year.

“Let all of us avoid this virus called corruption right from the ministerial level to the grassroots,” has said.
