WITH Mpigi region leading the number of team entries (13), this year’s Sprite-sponsored schools’ basketball championship has attracted a record 44 teams — 10 more than last year.
“This year we have had more girls teams qualifying for this tournament and we hope the number increases even next year,†National Schools’ Basketball Association (NSBA) said secretary Jimmy Tugumisirize.
The five-day competition in Fort Portal is expected to have several teams from seven regions — Kampala, Mpigi, Jinja, Mbale, Mbarara, Kabarole and the Northern. Kampala comes second with ten schools.
Century Bottling Company under the Sprite brand is the main sponsor of the tournament.
