UGANDA’S teenage stars will have a chance to go semi-professional if they excel in the Sprite schools basketball championships next week.

Scout Jake Solomon from the United Kingdom will watch the schools’ championships that has attracted over 616 students from 35 different schools. He is a scout from the International Basketball Convention.

“The Federation invited Solomon in a bid to promote healthy competition within the game as well as giving a chance to the students to target a career in the UK,” Henry Musisi, chairman of FUBA revealed.

Meanwhile, the National Council of Sports- NCS has also boosted the National Schools Basketball Association- NASBA with a donation of sh1m and also offered technical support to the tournament organisers.

FUBA has also started a development project to help strengthen the growth of the sport within the country.

The pilot project recently launched in Kampala, will also promote rural development of the game in selected villages and endeavour to set up 100 basketball courts countrywide, according to FUBA boss Musisi.
