A Police officer recently sent court into laughter when he revealed that he and his family eat rats.

No.31686 PC Hakison Dradrile, 33, attached to Mobile Police Unit, was testifying against a charge of threatening violence.

Dradrile denied the charge, saying he did not engage in any fight. He said he had no grudge or quarrel with Apio who had filed a case of threatening violence against him.
“I came back from duty at dawn, killed a giant rat. At 6pm, I was roasting it in front of my house using a knife. I ate the rat with my two children and wife. It was a wild rat.”

He was appearing before the Nakawa Court Grade One Magistrate, J.B. Byarugabaha.

Dradrile said the complainant, Monica Apio, a neighbour attacked him while he was enjoying the rat’s muchomo (roasted meat) with his family outside their house.

He said Apio grabbed him from behind and tried to snatch the knife he was using to cut his muchomo.

However, the prosecution led by State Prosecutor, Ditus Nsabye, alleged that on February 19, 2002, Dradrile attacked Apio with a knife and threatened to stab her. But his wife removed the knife from him before he could do so.

When asked, Dradrile said he did not share the rat with his neighbours because it was too small.

The offence was allegedly committed at Ntinda Barracks in Kampala.
