SIR— Sometime I wonder whether our MPs live in Uganda or on Mars. I was shocked to read the story “MPs want Police to surrender AK-47 rifles” in The New Vision last Monday.

SIR— Sometime I wonder whether our MPs live in Uganda or on Mars. I was shocked to read the story “MPs want Police to surrender AK-47 rifles” in The New Vision last Monday. It seems our MPs are just debating issues for the sake of appearing in the press. How can a policeman, equipped with a baton and a pistol arrest a robber with an LMG rifle?
MPs claim that the Police is a civil force. But the Ugandan population is so militarised now that even AK-47s are not taken seriously by robbers.
