Didi troubled KAMPALA — A city bailiff has filed an application to the Commercial Court for a warrant to attach property worth over sh107m belonging to Didi’s Amusement Park. The move is to recover part of a sh128m debt owed to East Way International, a theatre equipment provider. Court in February ordered the park to pay the sh128,948,208 debt but Didi’s has since failed to clear it.
Petition off KAMPALA — The Constitutional Court yesterday declined to hear a petition seeking to nullify the Divorce Act. The Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Joseph Murangira, said the Attorney General on Monday wrote to the court requesting for an adjournment of the matter, saying the petitioners had filed late affidavits that he needed to study and reply.
UPC loses KABAROLE — Mzee Felix Rwambarari, one of the founder members of UPC, has died. Rwambarari, 70, died at his home in Fort Portal on Monday. Rwambarari, Milton Obote, Sam Odaka and the late John Babiha and others founded UPC in 1959. UPC members said Rwambarari served the party faithfully.

Politicians anger MPs KAMPALA — MPs on the defence and internal affairs committee yesterday said politicians have hijacked the work of the army, causing the escalation of insecurity in the north and eastern Uganda. Omara Atubo (Otuke) said the UPDF should be allowed to have total command of the volunteer groups and to handle security information. He said loose talk among politicians was detrimental to the efforts to secure peace. He said the Arrow and Rhino groups were suspicious.
Nankabirwa vexes Otto KAMPALA — Aruu MP Odonga Otto has written to President Yoweri Museveni over state minister Ruth Nankabirwa’s remarks that he supports rebels by inciting the youth in his area from joining the army. Otto took a swipe at Nankabirwa for calling him ‘childish’, and said he would institute legal proceedings in case he failed to get redress from Museveni. He was addressing the press at Parliament yesterday. Otto said he was seeking audience to explain himself before Museveni.
8 UPDF men to be tried KAMPALA — Eight UPDF soldiers accused of killing former President Yoweri Museveni’s campaign manager for Luweero in the last presidential elections are to be tried by the High Court. Privates Tom Baligeya, Alfred Komakech, Joseph Kaija, Ahmed Sururu and Happy Aziz Abdul allegedly killed James Paul Muzira, headmaster of Nalinya P7 School, before robbing him of his Toyota UAB 387L. Other suspects include John Othieno, Jaberi Hussein and Ismail Hassay. Justice Kibuuka Musoke set September 16 for the trial.
