We Iteso should rise to the occasion and rout Kony with Karimojong

SIR— I wish to add my voice to the innovative idea Capt Mike Mukula, the Soroti Municipality MP, and his colleagues in Teso and Karamoja have tabled to involve “our uncles” the Karimojong to jointly fight the LRA.

SIR— I wish to add my voice to the innovative idea Capt Mike Mukula, the Soroti Municipality MP, and his colleagues in Teso and Karamoja have tabled to involve “our uncles” the Karimojong to jointly fight the LRA. The rebels have created suffering which the Iteso have never seen in their history. The unresolved question is: Why the Iteso now at this time? We had enjoyed relative peace and stability save for the Karimojong raids and the sub-region had begun to pick its former glory.
If the Kony incursions are not resolved soon, the long-term impact is hunger, poor education, economic decline and perpetual poverty. So let us embrace this move and use it to build relationships with Karamoja that should create a conducive atmosphere for dialogue and ironing out problems between the Karimojong and us. All over the world, problems tend to unite peoples who would otherwise not co-exist. Teso and Karamoja are no exception.
There are already numerous voices in support and against the Arrow Group initiative.
I call upon all Iteso to join in defending our leaders and interests. This has been our biggest weakness as a region.
I wish to challenge the Teso elite, especially in Kampala, Jinja and Entebbe, to rise to the challenges in Teso and fully participate.
