HOIMA — A passenger sustained serious gunshot wounds on Tuesday when armed thugs opened fire at a minibus as they staged a robbery on Hoima road. Gad Turyaikoa was admitted to Hoima Hospital in critical condition after he was hit in the leg. The district Police boss, Samson Emokuku, said the mini-bus was from Kyangwali.

LRA ambush
SOROTI — Suspected Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels on Monday ambushed a group of millet traders at Aparisa village, 14km north of the town, robbing them of nine bicycles. The rebels, who had earlier killed two people in the same village, also stole the millet. The dead were identified as Gideon Okwap and his son, Bosco Elemu.

Defiler jailed
KAMPALA — A 48-year-old man is to serve 13 years in prison for defiling a 13-year-old girl, the Supreme Court has said. Justices Benjamin Odoki, Arthur Oder, John Wilson Tsekooko, Alfred Karokora and Joseph Mulenga unanimously said James Akwam of Plot 1 Olwol Road in Lira, was properly convicted by the trial judge.
