THE Police in Jinja are hunting for two suspected robbers who recently stole a motor cycle from a boba boda man and nearly strangled him to death.

The district officer-in-charge of criminal investigations, Hillary Odoch, identified the cyclist as John Navulungutu, 27.

He said the victim was admitted to Jinja Hospital with a swollen neck.

Odoch said the cyclist operated at Wanyama Road stage, Bugembe in Mafubira sub-county.

He said two men masquerading as travellers approached the cyclist at 8:00pm on Sunday.

Narrating his ordeal from Jinja Hospital, Navulungutu said the thugs requested him to take them to Nakanyonyi trading centre, about a kilometre away from the stage.

He said on the way the thugs suddenly threw a nylon string around his neck and attempted to strangle him.

Naluvulungutu said he lost control of the motorcycle as he tried to free himself.
He said in the ensuing struggle, they fell by the roadside.

Naluvulungutu said the thugs threw him into the nearby bush thinking he was dead and sped off on his motorcycle.

He said the Police trailed the robbers.

“We have already established vital clues that could lead to the arrest of the suspects,” Odoch said.

Odoch warned that boda boda cyclists working at night were easy targets of robbers and other criminals.

He said Jinja police had registered an increasing rate of crime, including theft of motorcycles and household items.
