KAMPALA City Council (KCC) has hired Arab Consultants and Engineers (ACE) to redesign the Nakivubo Channel mouth, city engineer Abraham Byandaala said recently.

ACE are the consultants of the sh17b World Bank-funded channel.
KCC was to re-design the channel mouth at the the directive of former environment state minister Dr. Kezimbira Miyingo.

Byandaala said in an interview that ACE had submitted it’s proposed designs to KCC. He said ACE would be paid extra fees for extra services.

“The consultant has given us his proposals. We are yet to decide whether we should go by their proposals or get other designs. I cannot tell how much it will cost us. We are still negotiating with the World Bank to get the actual cost,” he said.

He added that when the actual designs were ready, they would be passed on to the contractor to China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation which has been rehabilitating the channel.
The reticulation will involve splitting the channel mouth into three fingers so that water is scattered through the Nakivubo wetland instead of one stream.
