Lira district police commander Geoffrey Aropet has warned Police officers against using brutal methods when interrogating suspects.
Aropet said this at a two-week training course for Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers at Lira central Police station recently.
He said many Police officers were torturing suspects in their custody.
Aropet said the refresher course was to equip Police officers with skills on how to handle cases properly.
He said this would restore public confidence in the police force.
Aropet said harassing suspects forced them to give false information.
“Use interrogation skills to get correct information from the suspects,” he said.
The training was facilitated by officers from the attorney general’s office and the magistrate’s court.
