THE Reform Agenda (RA) has welcomed the appointment of Dr. Francis Mwesigye Runumi as commissioner for planning in the Ministry of Health.

RA spokesperson Betty Kamya told the weekly briefing yesterday that RA activists had the same right as other Ugandans to occupy senior positions in the public service.

“He has been given a public service job for which he is competent. Members of the RA are supposed to work to earn a living. So there is no reason why we should be outraged about the development,” Kamya said.

Kamya, who is also an employee of a government agency, said the politics of Uganda had been distorted and degraded to a point where individuals needed to make concessions in order to survive.

She said Runumi had to make such a concessions in order to survive, adding that he had not necessarily denounced the RA.

“The RA is bigger than the individual. It is a set of values. It will outlive any individual. Runumi has not denied the reasons that made him join RA. He has not denounced RA. He has simply said he will work with the Movement,” she said.

She said the Movement was growing weaker because for every person who returned to their fold, many more deserted it.

RA youth leaders David Kanyerezi and Moses Nuwagaba attended.
