Bakonzo Hold Talks Over Rwenzururu

Dialogue between supporters of the controversial Rwenzururu Kingdom (Obusinga) and those against it has started in Kasese.

Dialogue between supporters of the controversial Rwenzururu Kingdom (Obusinga) and those against it has started in Kasese.
The acting Kasese Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Wilson Isingoma, launched the dialogue at Boma ground in Kasese town on Friday.
Isingoma said, “We want dialogue between the pro and anti-obusinga groups so that they reach an understanding.â€
He said the Government wanted to learn about Obusinga and the results of the dialogue so that it could help those supporting the kingship.
According to research carried out last year by Makerere University’s Department of Social Sciences, 87% of the Bakonzo and Bamba are in favour of Obusinga.
The Obusinga is a Bakonzo/Bamba cultural institution headed by Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma (right).
Apprunalis Kalibogha (Bukonzo East MP) leads the group seeking Government recognition of the Rwenzururu Kingdom.
Dr. Crispus Kiyonga (Bukonzo West MP) heads the group opposed to the establishment of the monarchy.
Isingoma told over 240 delegates from the 12 clans of the Bakonzo to tolerate people with different views in order to understand each other and reach an agreement.
The Chairman of Rwenzururu Veterans Association, Yolamu Mulima, said that was the first meeting of the Bakonzo clans.
Mulima is also responsible for mobilising the committee for the Rwenzururu Kingdom recognition.
The Bakonzo tribe has 12 clans some of which are Abahira, Abakyira, Abaswagha, Abasu Ababinga and Abasongora.
Meanwhile John Thawite reports that Bundibugyo district vice-chairperson Gideon Mumbere Balinda has said the district will not tolerate anyone decampaigning the presidential third term.
Balinda was recently addressing over 240 Kasese and Bundibugyo youth and elders at Boma ground in Kasese town.
The meeting focused on the history of the Bakonzo in order to clear the mysteries and conflicts surrounding the Bakonzo/Bamba kingdom.
Balinda told supporters of the monarchy to avoid insulting the Government over the matter.
Mumbere is studying in the United States under Government sponsorship.
He criticised Kasese and Bundibugyo MPs who “sleep†in Parliament when they are expected to advocate the establishment of the kingdom.
