IT has been a long while between Miriam Alony’s debut on the gospel scene back in the late 1980s and the final release of her debut album in 2003.
But the singer, in her early thirties has finally made it. Miriam Alony will proudly launch Praising The Lord, a 10-track album solely produced by Steve Jean in a free concert this Sunday October 5 at Kampala Pentecostal Church (KPC).
The show, which begins at 4:30pm will feature, among other gospel actors, Irene Lubwama from Entebbe Power Centre, Sanctuary, a quartet of young men based at KPC, the Gospel dancers and Roger Mugisha formerly “The Shadow”, expected to be the MC.
Miriam last made news when she released her R&B single God Is Only One, as a promotional single for her fourth coming album earlier this year. The track, which was written by herself and produced by Steve Jean, garnered ample airplay and got Miriam noticed.
She, however, later changed the title of the album to Praising The Lord, an exotic-sounding track with Indian sounds and more catchy beat. Steve Jean whose skill in R&B production is well documentated goes out of his way to create a truly unique sound. Miriam
Miriam Alony, who set out singing in The New Wave Band with Phiona Mukasa and the present day Limit X, after a few musical adventures teamed up with a colleague to form a group called Miriam & Sandra.
Their album, which basically comprised contemporary covers of Pentecostal hymns, won the girls critical acclaim within Pentecostal circles.
However, later, when Sandra got married off to Tony Bradley, a South African Gospel singer and left the country, Miriam decided to embark on a solo career. Watch this space for Miriam’s CD review.
