BUSIA — RDC Kisinzigo Sebirumbi recently said 90% of the people in Lunyo sub-county were infected with bilharzia. He was addressing students of Masaba College during a mobilisation tour for the forthcoming measles immunisation exercise.

HIV testing
MBALE — District HIV/AIDS counselling and testing supervisor Lam Mayende said 57 sex workers in Busia and Malaba were offered the services last month. He said this during a workshop at St. Austin hall in Mbale recently.

Defiler held
BUSIA — Police in Lumino is holding a 17-year-old boy on defilement charges. The victim and the suspect are Primary Six pupils of Buhehe Primary School. Police said medical reports indicated the 15-year-old girl was defiled last month.

Cyclist jailed
Jinja — Grade One Magistrate Sylvia Nabaggala on Wednesday remanded a boda-boda cyclist to Kirinya Prison for allegedly stealing sh45,000. Paul Isabirye of Danida village in Walukuba reportedly broke into a neighbour’s house and stole the money on August 18.


‘Control sex’
SOROTI — The district chairperson, Capt. John Emilly Otekat, has advised married
couples to avoid irresponsible sex as a way of fighting domestic poverty. Otekat was addressing the Uganda Local Authorities Association members recently.

Two survive
BUSIA — Grace Namuma, a wife to a district official, and a boda-boda cyclist Yakobo Omuwandira narrowly escaped death recently when the bridge at Solo stream collapsed as they were crossing.
