Children, THE New Vision has something exciting for you this season! You can win lots money in a competition called ‘Design An Ad’ contest. It is so easy! All you have to do is to design your own adverts and send them in from October 18 to November 29.
Some of the companies that you will have a chance to design adverts for are Colgate, Shell, MTN, Bata Shoe Company and many others.
Every pupil whose advert is published wins sh50,000! At the end of the contest, the best advert wins sh500,000! The second best gets sh300,000 and the third prize is sh200,000!
‘Design An Ad’ contest, is open to all primary school pupils, but you must cut out a coupon from The New Vision and attach it to your drawings. The coupons will appear in The New Vision on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Please do not try to copy any advert or you will be disqualified. Be creative and make your own. The same applies if you let your brothers, sisters, parents or teachers help you design your adverts.
You are free to design more than one advert for the same advertiser, but will have to attach a fresh coupon each time.
To avoid making errors, draw sketches on pieces of paper and see what they look like. When you are satisfied with your work, get a piece of white, photocopying paper and draw a box measuring 17cm long and 13cm wide. Draw your final advert in the box. The measurements of the box have to be exact!
Colour your adverts with markers or water paints. Use coloured pencils only if you cannot get markers or water paints.
You may also design your advert in black and white, using black ink or a black pen. Please do not use a pencil!
Send your entries to: The Children’s Editor, The New Vision, P.O. Box 9815, Kampala, Third Street, Industrial Area. Clearly label your envelope ‘Design An Ad’ contest. Upcountry pupils can send their entries to our offices in Mbarara, Jinja, Fort Portal, Mbale, Lira, and Soroti.
