THE Democratic Party (DP) will today file an objection to the registration of the National Resistance Movement/ Organisation (NRM/O) as a political party with the Registrar General.
DP lawyer Elias Lukwago yesterday said the petition had five main grounds of objection to the registration due at 11.00am.
He said the yellow bus symbol, the green and the words ‘movement’ and ‘organisation’ were contrary to the law.
DP last month threatened it would engage the Movement in a legal battle if it made good its promise to register as a political party under the Political Organisations Act (POA) using the words movement and organisation.
DP spokesman Jude Mbabali said they would go to any heights in the legal battle if the Movement did not make amendments to bring it to a level political ground with other parties.
Lukwago said the application for reservation of the name, symbol and colour by NRM/O was made by President Yoweri Museveni as chairman of the National Conference of the Movement, a body corporate under the Movement Act, yet he could not legally carry out those duties because he is a serving officer of the UPDF, under section 16 of the POA.
He said the application for registering the Movement Organisation as well as the Constitution of the NRM were null and void because one signatory, Movement vice-chairman Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo is a public officer.
