THREE more people have declared interest to contest for the Kabale LC5 seat in the bye-elections.
The aspirants include Geoffery Nzaana, the district chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Denis Nkwasibwe, the district youth chairman and southern division councillor Isaiah Kanyamanahane.
Kabale MPs recently endorsed Adison Kakuru, the immediate former LC5, for the seat.
The seat was declared vacant after Kakuru lost a petition filed by Dr Francis Runumi.
The aspirants accused former chairmen Dr.Runumi and Kakuru of dividing residents on tribal lines.
Former health minister in the Obote II Governement, Dr. Ezra Nkwasibwe, recently declared interest to contest the seat.
Nkwasibwe said he wanted to save the district from wrangles that have caused political unrest and hampered development.
Kakuru recently told The New Vision, “I am consulting my supporters and I hope to bounce back as the district chairman because the people of Kabale want to me in power,” he said.
Kakuru lost the seat when Runumi challenged his election, citing massive rigging and violence, among other electoral malpractice.
Runumi will not contest the elections after he was appointed a Commissioner in the Ministry of Health by President Yoweri Museveni recently.
He has since joined the Movement from Reform Agenda where he was a key member.
