The World Bank has given a grant of about $16,000 to five companies that are dealing in solar related products.

The companies include Solar Energy for Africa, Solar Energy Uganda Limited, Energy Systems Limited, Uganda Solar Supply Limited, and Incafex Solar Systems Limited.

The cheques were handed over to the beneficiaries on Friday by James Mulwana the chairman of the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) at their offices in Nakasero.

He said the PSFU in partnership with the Government and the World Bank have started on a programme to develop the market for solar systems.

“So far we are working with six companies five of which have got a grant of sh32m, I urge the remaining ones to legalise their operations, have supporting documents, prepare business plans, submit audited accounts among others in order to pass the rigorous criteria in order to qualify,” Mulwana said on Friday.
