Acholi leaders have urged the Government to consider giving special grants to the districts of Pader, Gulu and Kitgum

Acholi leaders have urged the Government to consider giving special grants to the districts of Pader, Gulu and Kitgum, writes Justin Moro.

In a joint resolution last week, the district councils called on the Government to compensate residents for lives and property lost during ambushes and whenever security personnel failed to protect the people.

“We appeal for help to avert the food and poverty crisis engulfing our people,” they said.

They also appealed for provision of HIV/AIDS anti-retroviral drugs to secondary schools and Gulu University.

“We applaud and support the current efforts at securing peace in the Sudan and the proposal to deploy an international peace keeping force and observer mission along the Uganda-Sudan border,” the resolution read in part.

It was signed by the chairman of the Acholi Parliamentary group who is also Nwoya County MP, Zachary Olum and the Acholi district chairpersons.

Kony rebels have caused untold suffering to the northern region since launching their rebellion some 17 years ago.
