THE Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has filed its defence against Top TV’s petition insisting that the latter’s demotion from the Nile Special Super League was lawful and meant to maintain the quality of football in Uganda.

Top TV which has placed an interim injunction stopping the 2003/4 league kick off, has petitioned court to nullify FUFA’s decision to demote it.

FUFA’s demotion of Top TV was based on the way the latter walked off the pitch in their last league game with Express 2-0 up, protesting the referee’s decisions.

FUFA, who have threatened to ban Top TV, said that the team’s action was an act of disrepute to football. FUFA says that Top TV was lawfully disciplined for abandoning the match.

Witnesses FUFA intends to be present to court include federation president, Denis Obua, the secretary Haruna Mawanda, the treasurer Patrick Isiagi, Waibale Junior and other officials.

“Top TV committed an act of disrepute to football that led to an inquiry culminating into their demotion from the Super Division,” said FUFA’s defence filed by Mwesigwa Rukutana and company advocates.

FUFA said that it probed the disrepute and the outcome shall be produced in court at the trial.

FUFA also said that Top TV has not exhausted all the possibilities of sports jurisdiction before going to court.
