In what has been coined “the battle of the divas,†Anke Pietrangeli (20), the blonde nightingale from Kimberley, was announced as the M-Net Idol for 2003 during last Sunday night’s dramatic Idols Finale spectacular at the Gold Reef City Hippodrome, in Johannesburg.
The event saw the Top 2 finalists, Anke along with Poseletso Sejosingoe (18) from Lotus River) going head-to-head in an explosive singing extravaganza.
Poseletso performed You Light Up My Life (Whitney Houston), Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkel) as well as the BMG single, Silver Lining. But it was the breathtaking performances by Anke of Unforgettable (Nat King Cole) and Independent Love Song (Scarlet) that blew the audience away.
Idols was hosted by presenters, Colin Moss and LeToya Makhene to the backdrop of incredible performances by 2002 Idol Heinz Winckler and British Idols runner-up Gareth.
