Taban Amin, the son of ex-president Idi Amin Dada who had stubbornly occupied the Uganda Embassy premises in Kinshasa, DR Congo, has been evicted as relations between the two countries warm up, a source in Kinshasa said recently.
Ugandan security sources said Taban, the elder son of the late Ugandan dictator, had fled to in Nairobi, Kenya.
A senior officer in the foreign ministry in Kinsahasa told The New Vision, “Taban's issue had become embarrassing as far as relations between Uganda and DRC were concerned.”
The Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Wapakhabulo, said Uganda had nominated Jacob Angua as ambassador to the DRC.
He said the Government was awaiting for the approval from the transitional government in Kinshasa.
Taban, whose forces helped the late DRC leader, Laurent Desire Kabila to fight on Mbandaka front against the Congolese Liberation Movement rebels, has his fighters based in Congo.
Wapakhabulo said reopening the Embassy was contained in the Luanda Agreement between Ugandan and DRC leaders.Ends
