NEW National Rally Champion Moses Lumala’s (left) Toyota Celica ST185 homologation expires this year but he believes he can still retain his title next season.

Caltex sponsored Lumala will forfeit 20 percent of his points if he drives an expired car.

“With a good budget I can win the championship again. I can make my car perfect and go group S (without a restrictor). I know most of the top drivers will have group A cars,” Lumala said.

He revealed that he would switch to a Subaru Impreza if funds were available next season.

“I might want to drive a Subaru but I would need a budget of sh150m which I don’t think I will get. The Subaru I need is 40,000 Euros (sh90m) and plenty of spare parts,” said Lumala, who will be seeking a third national title next season.

Emma Katto, who also owns a Toyota Celica ST185, will have no choice but unleash his Mitsubishi Evo5 that has been redundant for six months.

Lumala won his second career championship after finishing second at the Castrol Mogas rally.
