HYDERABAD -President A P J Abdul Kalam said on Saturday that the country had graduated to host bigger events after the successful completion of the first Afro-Asian Games.
“India has graduated to hold bigger events like Commonwealth Games and Olympics,†said Kalam.
The country will bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
Three bronze medals from athletes Dorcus Inzikuru, Boniface Kiprop and boxer Joseph Lubega, helped Uganda finish 31st as the curtain fell on the maiden Afro-Asian Games in the Indian City of Hyderabad.
The games that had the cream of Africa and Asia competing in eight disciplines, saw Asia take the top three positions on the medal table. China, (25 gold, 11 silver and 5 bronze) came top.
