90 captives
LIRA — At least 90 former Lord’s Resistance Army rebel captives were handed over to two rehabilitation centres at Lira Army barracks on Monday. UPDF 5th division public relations officer 2nd Lt. Chris Magezi said it was the army’s responsibilities to create avenues for the rebel captives to escape whenever they engage the LRA in battle.

School gets
KITGUM — Education state minister of sports Henry Oryem has donated four computers worth sh2.6m to Kitgum High School. The head-teacher, Michael Ocan, recently said the donation comes after the school made a request to the minister. Ocan said Oryem had also lobbied the German embassy to build a solar power system for the school.

Ogwal urges
LIRA — Area MP Cecilia Ogwal has called upon Ugandans to seek God’s intervention to end the northern insurgency. She said the Government’s military option was inadequate. She was addressing mourners at the burial of Sam Okwir in Adyel division recently.

35,000 killed
KITGUM — The resident district commissioner, Santo Okot Lapolo, has said at least 35,000 people in the district have so far been killed by Joseph Kony’s rebels in the last 18 years. He was recently addressing journalists at his office.
