CRANES scrapped a 2-1 victory over regional rivals Taifa Stars without lead striker Hassan Mubiru, who was promptly dropped from the team travelling to face Mauritius.

Mubiru has been skipping training and has been in and out of camp.

FUFA vice president John Ssemanobe confirmed the decision after the build-up game yesterday.

“We have decided to give up on him because we have had more than enough of him. We will not keep people who are less committed in this team,” said Ssemanobe.

Despite the absence of Mubiru, coach Leo Adraa was impressed with his side’s come-from-behind win. Godfrey Ssali and Zakaria Lubega scored for Uganda after Abu Masula had given Tanzania the lead at Nakivubo stadium.
Professional Sulaiman Tenywa arrived but was not fielded while Ibrahim Sekajja is already in Mauritius.

*It is not over yet for the Cranes. Mauritius national team coach Akbar Patel, has summoned a new army of foreign-based professional players to help his team overturn the 0-3 goal drubbing by high-flying Cranes last month.

According to Mauritius newspapers, L’ Express and Le Mauricien, those called to boost the Indian ocean national team are midfielder Christopher Perle (La Passe, Reunion) Ricardo Naboth (Jean d’Arc) Jimmy Cundasami( St. Louisienne) Jerry Louis (St. Denis) striker Desire Periatambee( Le Mans, France) and defensive midfielder Sebastian Bax who plays for Santos of Seychelles.

Professional Cundasami is optimistic they can down Cranes. “Uganda is not as strong as many people think. With fan support and our solidarity as players, I think we shall succeed,” he said.

The do-or-die match will be played in George V stadium on Sunday.
The game will be handled by French-speaking Seychelles referee Eddy Maillet.
