UGANDA Cricket Association (UCA) has started a fundraising drive to raise sh207m ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) U-19 World Cup set for Dhaka, Bangladesh, next February.

The local body, got support from MTN, Shell and Multichoice for the qualifiers in Namibia, but is still hunting for an official sponsor for the finals.

The Uganda U-19 boys made history in Namibia last month by qualifying for the World Cup finals.

They will play against South Africa, England and Nepal in the group matches that start February 15.

“We have numerous requirements prior to the World Cup and we have started to look for the funds as we also anxiously wait for the ICC input,” team manager Aloysius Nainhabo said.

UCA needs sh19m for residential training, sh56m for the South Africa and Zimbabwe tours and over sh130m for the tournament in Bangladesh.

The budget caters for the kit, official uniforms, training gear, travel expenses, accommodation, communication and players allowances among others.

Meanwhile, a squad of 18 boys are expected to camp next week for drills under coach Andrew Meya, local development officer William Kamanyi and East Africa development officer Tom Tikolo.
