There are many motorists today who do not know the skills of changing tyres on a vehicle in case of a a tyre burst or deflation. It is common, especially on the part of women that if the tyre of their vehicle runs flat they, wait for a sympathiser to help them fix the spare tyre.

In driving schools, a trainee must be taught how to change a tyre and other safety technicalities involved. Many people have attempted changing vehicle tyres, but ended up becoming casualties because they do not follow the right procedure.

When a tyre runs flat while a vehicle is on a slope or a gradient, changing the tyre becomes very risky. As you jerk up, the chances of the vehicle rolling off the jerk are high. In this case, you need to ensure that the ground on which you change the tyre is flat. Roll the vehicle down-hill until it is on a level ground before you change the tyre.

When a vehicle is on a flat surface, minimise its chances sliding off the jerk. Secure the vehicle handbrake and also improvise stoppers to hold it in case the hand brake is not strong. You can use stones or blocks in case you do not have the factory made stoppers. Look underneath the vehicle and locate the jerk position. Many people make mistakes as they insert the jerk under the vehicle. A vehicle has a jerk spot on which the jerk top must touch before you begin jerking at each wheel. Some people place the jerk on the body of the car and support the weight of the vehicle on the body. This damages the body underneath. Others put a jerk under the brakes piping system and break or block the pipes of the brake fluid.
