FIVE people, including a five-year-old girl, were on Saturday killed when suspected Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels ambushed their taxi at Ongiino in Amuria sub-county, Katakwi district.

Asamuk-based army intelligence officer Bosco Amodoi said the UAD 758E omnibus was ambushed not far from a UPDF road patrol.

He said they were searching for missing passengers, including a 25-year-old pregnant woman. He said the taxi belonged to John Otuboi.

Amodoi said the survivors feigned death when the rebels ransacked their bodies and stripped them.

Arrow Group coordinator Musa Ecweru warned the people to take care.
“There’s still a group of these savages that’s still holed up in some parts of Katakwi-Lango border,” he said.

Efforts to reach the UPDF command in Soroti were futile.

People streamed to Soroti Hospital mortuary to identify the dead.

Meanwhile, Richard Otim reports that the UPDF recently handed over 46 Iteso child abductees rescued in Lango last month, including two students of Lwala Girl’s Secondary School.

The children, 27 boys and 11 girls, were delivered to Soroti district leaders at the district chambers on Tuesday.

The resident district commissioner, Edward Masiga, said two of the girls were part of 80 students abducted in Kaberamaido in June.

Arrow Group co-ordinator Musa Ecweru asked the public to forgive the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels for the atrocities they committed against the people of Teso.

“Sometimes when we react bitterly it is because we are disturbed by the atrocities of the war. But for those who will give up the rebellion on their own will, we shall forgive them,” he said.
