Pallisa district has constructed a sh67m worth administration block using Local Government Development Programme (LGDP) funds.
Launching the block recently, a Ministry of Local Government official, Tom Matte, read Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere’s speech in which he warned district officials to adhere to set-up guidelines while using funds remitted by the government and donors.
He told the councillors to stick to the law while making decisions to avoid plunging the district into legal battles and financial problems that stall its development.
Matte regretted that a poor district like Pallisa could ‘donate’ millions of shillings to people as a result of irrational decisions.
He was referring to the case in which the district paid sh100m to former chief administrative officer Nathan Kayongo who sued for wrongfully dismissal.
Matte, however, commended the district for the construction, saying the block value for money.
The resident district commissioner, Geoffrey Kyomukama, to the councillors to mobilise the people for development.
